Prepare for a rewarding career as a professional counselor in public and private
schools, institutions of higher learning, community agencies, or private
practice with the MA degree in Counseling.
NOTE: Applicants are screened for suitability for the profession. Applicants who are chosen are initially admitted on a conditional basis. To be eligible for Regular Admission status, you must first complete a minimum of 9 semester hours of coursework in the Counselor Education program with a minimum 3.0 grade point average. Students do their field work in a school setting and have orientation in regards to schools. Licensed teachers in the State of Michigan can qualify for the Michigan School Counseling Endorsement, if they also pass the appropriate state examination. Non-teachers who want a Michigan School Counselor License must take the Professional Counseling option, plus additional credit hours – beyond the 48 required – related to school counseling. Prepares students for licensure as a counselor (LPC) with the State of Michigan.

Satisfied by CED 691 (6 hours) and Comprehensive Examination.
