Maximizing Learning
To help our instructors become more effective in the classroom, we have published
the Articulation of the
Faculty Role, often referred to as Maximizing Learning. Maximizing Learning
outlines the 6 requirements and 8 principles of teaching effectiveness. Faculty
are evaluated based on their use of the 8 principles.
A companion document to Maximizing Learning,
Maximize Your Learning,
outlines our expectations for our adult students. Hand this out in your class
and use it as a tool to discuss the expectations you have about learning in your
classroom.
Syllabus Build Tool
To provide our adult students with support and to address internal academic and
administrative issues, we have developed the
Syllabus Build Tool. This
technology allows faculty to “build” their syllabus using an electronic template
that automatically fills in the course description, course location, meeting
times and dates, course prerequisites, learning outcomes, Academic Dishonesty
Policy, access to and support of Blackboard (if applicable), and contact
information for our Off-Campus Library Services. Faculty complete their syllabus
in the template and may refer to the prompts which accompany each section in
order to create a robust, adult student focused document. All faculty are
required to use the Syllabus Build Tool and only currently contracted faculty
can access this tool. Faculty must use their CMU global id and password to gain
access.
Blackboard
The course management software used at CMU to provide an electronic,
internet-accessible site for your course and course materials is called
SS (Bb).
