If you are planning to drop or withdraw from a CMU Global Campus course,
please carefully read the following important information about the correct
required procedures and the potential impact on your academic history and
DROP: Students must DROP a course if they plan to stop attending before the course starts or prior to the 2nd meeting time for face-to-face courses or prior to the 2nd week of classes for a CMU Online course.
WITHDRAWAL: Students must WITHDRAW from a course they plan to stop attending if it is
after the drop period and up to the mid-point of the course.
Note: If you do not DROP or
WITHDRAW from a course and simply stop attending (virtually or in person) you will receive a grade of “E” for the course.
You may be charged back for financial aid based on your last date of attendance.
For information on fees and the amount refunded for drops and withdrawals, see the
Course Drops/Withdrawals Chart.
A drop removes the course from your record. If you drop the course before the course begins, you will receive a refund of 100% of the tuition. If you drop a class after the course has started and prior to the 2nd meeting time for face-to-face courses or prior to the 2nd week of classes for a CMU Online course, you will
be charged a $50 drop fee. Tuition will be refunded less that $50 fee.
Use the CentralLink
Course Search and Registration system to drop your course prior
to it starting or prior to the 2nd meeting time for the face-to-face class or
prior to the 2nd week of an online class.
All students withdrawing from a course are assessed a fee of $50 in addition to the refund percentage outlined in the
Course Drops/Withdrawals Chart. A grade of “W” is
permanently displayed on the student’s academic record.
Course Search and Registration system to withdraw from your
course after the 2nd meeting time for the face-to-face class or after the 1st
week of an online class up to the mid-point of the course.
Active duty Army students using tuition assistance must use the
GoArmyEd Portal instead of
CentralLink to withdraw from a course.
To be eligible to receive federal financial aid, you must be enrolled at least half-time status (6 credits per semester for undergraduate students; 5 credits per semester for graduate students).
Dropping a course that results in being below the minimum number of credits required, results in no longer being eligible to receive financial aid. Any financial aid awards that have been disbursed must be returned to CMU and any course (s) in which you remain enrolled would be paid for directly by the student.
Failure to complete 67% of attempted courses within an academic year will result in being placed on financial aid warning status. Grades of NC (No Credit), I (Incomplete), W (Withdrawal), X (audit), and Z (Deferred) are not counted as earned credit and are considered a “Failure to complete.”
Students who cease/fail to attend (virtual or otherwise)
and have not formally withdrawn from the course will receive a grade of “E.” A
charge back for financial aid received may be incurred based on the student’s
last day of attendance.
Full withdrawal from the semester may require a recalculation of financial aid eligibility and can impact funding received.
More information on satisfactory academic progress and financial aid processes can be found in the
Financial Aid Manual.
Prior to requesting a drop or withdrawal from any course or courses, students using financial aid are advised to contact their
Program Administrator or the Financial Aid Office to determine the impact on financial aid. You can reach a Financial Aid Advisor at 800-664-2681, option #2 or by e-mail at
