Do you want to be a teacher? Then this is the degree for you. Once you
successfully complete this comprehensive face-to-face program and pass the
Michigan Test for Teacher Certification, you will earn provisional teacher
certification in the State of Michigan.
This program is currently offered at two
locations: CMU’s East Lansing Center where initial courses are taken in
partnership with Lansing Community College and CMU’s Traverse City Center where
initial courses are take in partnership with Northwestern Michigan College.
The East Lansing program begins at Lansing Community College and
finishes at CMU’s East Lansing Center. Please contact our East Lansing Center

This major offers a
balanced, interdisciplinary program of coursework in the life, physical, earth,
and space sciences for students planning to teach elementary or middle school.
The program prepares students to teach science content in Michigan and includes
strong preparation in science inquiry through laboratory and field experiences.
Successful completion of this degree plus passing the Michigan Test for Teacher
Certification allows graduates to teach all subjects K-5, K-8 in a
self-contained classroom, and science in grades 6-8.

The intent of the Child Development Minor is to provide students
with an interdisciplinary approach to the study of children. The growth and
development of children within the preschool and elementary years is examined
within the context of working with children in educational settings. Students
who complete this minor may take the Michigan Early Childhood Examination.
Successful completion of this examination results in the addition of the Early
Childhood (ZS) Endorsement to the student's K-8 teaching certificate. The ZS
Endorsement is required for employment in Michigan Public School Preschool
